#GivingTuesday 2022: A Decade of Generosity

#GivingTuesday celebrated its 10th anniversary on November 29, 2022. And it was an enormous celebration! Giving in the United States totaled a record $3.1 billion!

Giving Tuesday was founded in 2012 by New York’s 92nd Street Y in partnership with the United Nations Foundation as a simple idea: a day, the Tuesday after Thanksgiving, to encourage people to do good.

Since then, the idea has grown into a global movement. Individuals, nonprofits and businesses in every country participate in this day of generosity by giving time, food, materials, money and acts of kindness.

Many retail brands participate in GivingTuesday by offering consumers the opportunity to give while making a purchase.

Following are examples of GivingTuesday 2022 emails.

Natural Life donated a portion of proceeds from sales of items in their special Fearless Collection to a mental health advocacy organization
Gorjana donated 10% of sales to a children’s organization
Beek donated meals for every shoe purchase, and time by working in a local food bank’s garden
J. McLaughlin gave 10% of proceeds from purchases to a food bank
Framebridge gave $10 for every frame sold on Giving Tuesday to an education nonprofit
Clare V. gave 10% of net Giving Tuesday sales to a community outreach organization
Pottery Barn matched donations to a children’s research hospital
Draper James gave 100% of net proceeds from the sale of shoes and handbags to a girls’ advocacy group
Jenni Kayne
raised funds for a women’s center with a donation match
made in raised funds for a foundation that supports hospitality workers by selling tickets to an upcoming virtual cooking class that they are hosting
Rumpl donated a blanket for every one sold to a group that provides outdoor adventures to young adults impacted by serious health conditions
Frances Valentine donates a portion of each sale to an organization that collects ocean bound toxic waste. On GivingTuesday, they doubled their contribution
