We are inspired by the festive creative that we are seeing in mailboxes already this year! Twinkling lights, red products and propping, and smiles combine to create an uplifting attitude.
In the tumultuous world that we are living in today, it’s a welcome mood. Continue on for a look at the creative and trends that made an impression on us thus far.
Home for the Holidays Starting in October
Home brands did not wait for the Halloween skeletons to be put away. They were in the mailbox with holiday décor and entertaining inspiration in early October (a few even at the end of September!)
Big Time Play Time
Toy catalogs also made an October appearance in mailboxes – this was good early timing for givers who want to be sure Santa is successful for their little loved ones. Most of the catalogs were robust editions – 36, 64, 80 and even 104 pages.
Like the toy catalogs, gift brand catalogs were also packed full, with dense spreads of product and page counts ranging from 30 to 100.
Red-y for the Season
It’s a tradition with sticking power: the color red signals that it’s time to celebrate the holidays. Here are examples of the festive hue selected for products, props and backgrounds.
Smile! The Feeling’s Unforgettable
Creative that touches on an emotional level is memorable, especially when it generates positive feelings. Stunning smiles, sweet children, darling dogs, a mistletoe moment, even an image that’s a little bit naughty feels nice and creates a desire to engage with a brand.
Pull the Promo Lever Now
This circle (pictured above) highlighted promos on the covers of the direct mail examples in this blog. If there was no promo on the cover, it’s highly likely there was one on the back or least a callout to free shipping – smart. With a soft fall across many categories, there will be a lot of competition for wallet share prior to Cyber weekend this year. Don’t be late to the promo party!
